CRITERIA FOR MEMBERSHIP
The follow are qualification guidelines for membership in the Elkhart Rotary Club.
To qualify for membership a person must:
- Reside in or be employed in the Elkhart Area
- Manage, operate, own or be an employee of a business; or serve as an employee of an institution.
- Adhere to high ethical standards in the business or profession
- Not be a member of another service club
In order to nominate a proposed member the membership committee should be able to answer "yes" to the following questions:
- Is the nominee's character and reputation above reproach?
- Does the nominee's lifestyle suggest "Service Above Self?"
- Is the reputation of the firm exemplary?
- Can the nominee meet the financial obligation?
- Can the nominee meet the attendance requirements?
HOW TO PROPOSE A NEW MEMBER
- Although not required, you will probably want to have the candidate attend at least two Club meetings as the guest of the Club.
- Obtain a Membership Proposal Form from the Chairman of the Membership Committee or enlarge and copy the form shown on the next page. The completed form should be returned to the Chairman of the Membership Committee.
- Upon approval of the Membership Committee the Candidate's name will be submitted to the Board of Directors.
- If the candidate is approved for membership by the Board of Directors, the proposer is so notified and the candidate's name is published to the membership.
- If there are no objections reported to the Board of Directors within ten days of the publication of the name of the pro- posed member, the candidate is considered elected to membership, upon payment of the Initiation Fee.
- During a club meeting the new member is introduced to the membership by the president.
- The new member will be asked to serve at the Fellowship Table for a time and will be given a committee assignment.
- The new member is expected to attend an orientation meeting in order to become acquainted with Rotary International as well as the history, projects and mission of the Elkhart Rotary Club.
- To insure that the new member feels comfortable in the Club, the proposer is expected to mentor the new member for at least three months.
