Elkhart Mayor, Tim Neese,
Speaks to the Club

Honorary Rotarian Mayor Tim Neese was in attendance.

Eric Garton, co-chair of the 2016 Taste of the Gardens, told the club preparations have begun for this year’s event which will be held on Saturday August 27th.

Club member Tom Shoff introduced recently appointed Chief of Police, Ed Windbigler, and Fire Chief, Chad Cory.

The Sergeant at Arms was Scott Franko, who quizzed the club on various facts surrounding St. Patrick’s Day.  One such fact is that the original color of the day was blue, not green. The money the Sergeant’s committee raises over the year is pooled into a fund and then disbursed annually to area non-profit organizations.

The featured speaker for the day was Elkhart Mayor Tim Neese, who told the club he plans to increase the amount of festivals downtown.  Bike Night is returning in July. Mayor Neese is working on hosting a regional Comic Con convention for 2017. The Mayor spoke about the new Community Center, as well as the traffic problems surrounding E. Jackson and Goshen Avenue and the new condos planned for the land off Elkhart Avenue.
