Elkhart Rotary Club Meeting November 11, 2019

President Candy Yoder opened the meeting and introduced Matt Lentsch, who shared positive words, led the Pledge, and Four-Way Test.  

Welcome table volunteers were Jessica Benko, Jim Rieckhoff, and guests were introduced by David Damerow and included guests of Rotarians: Blake Doriot (Chuck Grodnik), John Petrofsky (Joe Gold), ECHS visiting students Christian DeSantos and Kyree Lewis (Paul Warning), and Rod Roberson (Ron Ringenberg). Also welcome Matt Werbiansky, Assistant Principal at Elkhart Central High School, accompanying the student group today. Welcome to ALL, we hope you can all join us again some other time!

• ROTARY DISTRICT 6540 Matching Gifts Campaign, a Limited Time Offer from November 1, 2019 through January 31, 2020 your personal donation of $100-$5,000 to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation will be matched with FOUNDATION RECOGNITION POINTS. Your matching foundation recognition points can be used in several ways: 
  • For your own Paul Harris designation, at the first level or toward the next multiple. For example, your personal gift of $500 will be matched with 500 points for a total value of $1,000 to achieve designation as a Paul Harris Fellow.
  • To recognize another individual with a full Paul Harris Fellow designation or an initial contribution. For example, your $1000 check will be matched with 1,000 points to award Paul Harris Fellow designation to a relative, a community member, or another Rotarian. 
  • For multiple recognitions, any combination of points designations for yourself and/or other individuals, with a minimum of 100 points per designation. For example, your personal gift of $500 will earn 500 points. You can keep 200 points for yourself to attain the next level, and award 300 points to a deserving new member of your club to inspire future sustaining contributions to the foundation and a future Paul Harris Fellow designation.

The University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business has a new initiative aimed at increasing gender diversity on nonprofit boards. The BRITE Women Project (Board Readiness Initiative to Empower Women Project), sponsored by Mendoza’s Nonprofit Professional Development, seeks to equip women with the skills they need to provide transformational nonprofit board leadership that benefits their communities. “Diversity of thought and perspective helps nonprofit boards and their associated organizations serve their communities better when all the voices are around the table,” said Dr. Logan. Many women have extensive professional leadership experience that would be a great asset to a nonprofit board, yet they may be uncertain about how to leverage those skills to obtain a seat at the table. The objective of BRITE is to help women broaden their understanding about nonprofit boards and how they might participate.

 

In addition to offering educational opportunities to women, the BRITE Women Project is working to launch a resource to connect nonprofits seeking female board members with women who are interested in serving.
