Rotary Club January 15, 2024 The Elkhart River Queen

Today we welcomed fellow Elkhart Rotarian, Project Manager for the restoration of the Elkhart River Queen, and one of the most community-minded individuals in Elkhart, Tom Shoff. Tom shared a great deal of history about the Queen, restoration efforts, and some stories of the restoration that you had to see to believe.

New Members for Consideration
At this past week's Board Meeting, the Board approved the recommendation from the Membership Committee to admit:
  1. Individual Membership
    1. Mike Green, RVMH (sponsored by Sherm Hansen), and 
  2. A Corporate Membership for the HUB (Bristol), including: 
    1. Chris Garner, Exec Dir;
    2. Sarah Farris, Life Resources Dir; and 
    3. Sarah Burton, Food Resources Coord.
Today begins the 7 day comment period. Should anyone have any reason that these applicants should not be admitted to the club, please contact Eric Garton. If no comments are received, we'll induct the new members next week! Thanks!

This is a great opportunity to connect with Dr. Huff and learn about his background and his vision for Elkhart Community Schools.   • Early May, 2024. In September, Rotarian Carl Dickerson of Dickerson Literacy Initiatives presented a program at the club about a project in Costa Rica in cooperation with Peace Corps volunteers to distribute books in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. Rotarians have distributed books in recent years in connection with eye clinics from IU and the Goshen Rotary Club. We are considering doing a trip to Costa Rica in early May that would distribute books in connection with five Peace Corps volunteers and also distribute eyeglasses that will be made for people from a February 2024 eye clinic trip. If you wish to support such a trip or travel with the group, contact either Doug Risser or Ashley Bowen for more information.
